The Cliff of Books

Hand-drawn with graphite pencil on a 60" × 22.5" canvas, this piece captures the iconic Book Cliffs that define the northern boundary of the Grand Valley, Colorado. The color palette celebrates that transformative hour when sunset floods the landscape with brilliant, unmissable magenta and golden light against a backdrop. This natural spectacle darkens the indigo sky—a natural spectacle that overwhelms the senses and captivates all who witness it.
After initial sketching, the work was digitally enhanced in Photoshop, then sublimated onto canvas stretched over a wooden frame. Acquired by the CMU Foundation in 2013, it now resides in the Tomlinson Library's permanent collection, honoring geographical features and the breathtaking natural beauty that defines the Grand Valley region.
