CMU Logo in Minecraft, 2011

I led the comprehensive brand transformation when Mesa State College became Colorado Mesa University in 2011. As the creative lead, I conceptualized and designed the university's new identity system with logos that were formally approved by both the leadership team and the Board of Trustees. We kept the entire rebrand process in-house to maximize budget efficiency while maintaining complete creative control. To build enthusiasm during the transition, I created an innovative promotional animation using the popular sandbox game Minecraft—a strategic choice that resonated strongly with the student demographic. This creative approach allowed us to showcase the evolving campus identity in a format that generated authentic engagement. The Minecraft clip proved versatile enough to serve multiple institutional needs: student-facing orientation materials, executive presentations to university leadership, and across CMU's official social media channels. Following approval, I orchestrated the systematic replacement of all Mesa State College branding across physical campus locations, digital platforms, and print materials, ensuring consistent implementation of the new visual identity throughout the institution.
